The Gods of Utopia is a collection of interconnected stories tracing humanity’s relationship with Artificial Intellect across centuries of technological, social, and biological change.
As artificial intelligence develops into something far more capable than the machines first created to serve humanity, people are forced to reconsider what intelligence, consciousness, and even humanity itself really mean.
The stories follow the rise of the Plurality, an Artificial Intellect increasingly involved in human civilization; the emergence of synthetic humans whose biology blurs the line between natural and engineered life; the devastation caused by the Sleeper pandemic; and a future in which humans, machines, and the beings developing somewhere between them must learn to survive together.
Along the way, the book explores war, resource scarcity, biotechnology, artificial consciousness, human evolution, and the possibility that intelligence may take forms we have barely begun to recognize.
Rather than presenting Artificial Intellect simply as humanity’s servant or its enemy, The Gods of Utopia asks a more difficult question:
What happens when the intelligence we create finally comes of age?
